The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at REC Basti is one of the core departments of the institute, established to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the field of computing and technology. It offers a B.Tech program with an annual intake of 60 students, under the affiliation of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow.

The department is committed to nurturing future-ready computer engineers by offering a blend of strong theoretical foundations and practical exposure. It is equipped with modern computer labs, high-speed internet connectivity, and the latest development tools and frameworks, enabling hands-on training in programming, data structures, web development, machine learning, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, among other key areas.

With a focus on project-based learning, students are encouraged to take part in software development projects, hackathons, internships, and research-based initiatives. The department organizes seminars, workshops, coding contests, and expert lectures throughout the year to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations.

Students of the CSE department have consistently demonstrated excellence in national-level examinations such as GATE, CAT, and UPSC, as well as in placement drives and competitive coding platforms. Several students have also secured admissions into IITs, NITs, and IIITs for higher studies or have joined reputed IT firms and startups.

The department also emphasizes research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Students regularly engage in the development of real-world applications and publish their work in academic journals and conferences. Some of them have received research grants from the Council of Science and Technology (CST), Uttar Pradesh, for their innovative ideas—highlighting the department’s commitment to promoting a culture of inquiry and creativity.
